After I got the initial rendition of Citizen Zero from my pal Chris Wiler -- I went into Photoshop and made a few minor tweaks to it.
Citizen Zero preceded Redline as Chicago's premiere superhero. In keeping with that concept, I conceived of an old-school, classic costume design appropriate for a mysterious defender of the night. The idea was to give CZ a look that would have both Silver Age and Pulp Hero affectations to it.
Chris took the ball and did an amazing job of running with it -- you can see his original version here: [link]
But I did wind up making a few edits that you can see in this iteration:
-I removed the visible clasps and collar line separating his mask from the rest of his costume. They looked great, but removing them made the design a little more contemporary.
-I changed the eye slit of his costume from see through to opaque and made it a bit thinner. This was done with the intention of making him even more mysterious and slightly scarier. With a see through eye slit, one would be able to identify CZ by his eye color and maybe even make an educated guess as to his racial/ethnic background. With these changes Citizen Zero becomes a complete enigma.
-Finally, I tweaked the design of the cape clasp slightly. The objective here was to make the character's 'Zero Tolerance For Crime!' motif a little more explicit at the design level.
